DikuMUD Bugfix Release
In a celebratory response to the DikuMUD codebase updating its software license to the LGPL in recent months, it seemed only right to try compiling and booting up the codebase.
Unfortunately, the code is decades old, and what may have been able to compile and run well in the past, simply doesn't hold up against a new compiler and new libraries.
So I perused the codebase, updating and cleaning the source as I went along. I also tested the server occasionally to identify and fix any obvious bugs, while also clearing out of the compiler warnings. What I ended up with was a fairly stable server with an easier to read & edit set of source code. Absolutely no additional functionality added.
If you'd like to spin-up your own vanilla Diku server and get a nostalgic peek into the past, before the Mercs, Circles, and the ROMs, you can >> download this latest version here at the MUD Institute<< or you can check out the GitHub project at → https://github.com/belisariussmith/DikuMUD-Delta
To paraphrase the old joke, I hereby declare DikuMUD free of bugs!
