UriMUD

UriMUD

Based off of LPMud 2.4.5, UriMUD included both a new driver (by James "Man-ing" McKenzie), and a mudlib (by Arkon).

This MUD implemented many new ideas and methods, as well as brought optimization to the driver.

There were plans for even further optimizations, including a new memory manager, new language compiler, the elimination of regexp, new editor, a TFTP protocol, and others which unfortunately never materialized as development halted in 1994.

As was the norm at the time, the codebase provided all the necessary tools to build a unique and original game, complete with a pre-defined skeleton mudlib, ready-to-go.

Notably, UriMud contained lots of documentation (mostly the mudlib), to get operational quickly, something which sadly other drivers, when packaged with a mudlib, were sorely lacking in during that period.

Note: This LPMud-derivative had Wizard levels set to start at 50, and the administrator level at 200

I started wiz'n on a 1.2.2lp, learned all there was about the mudlib, and it's code, and bugs, we upgraded to 1.4.5 and I did the same there, by this time I was also a mud admin, working on the base mud and not just a castle, dealing with player probs and so on. I then managed to setup my own mud on my computer at home 2.4.5 and after a bit began to address a few of the many bugs that would cause the system to crash. And that is how it all began.
