EnvyMUD
Described as a MercMUD meant to go "beyond the original limitations" with many enhancements and contributions. It included improvements, new features (poison weapons), and bug fixes from version 2.2 of Merc.
The base version of the MUD also has 50 mortal levels (like SillyMUD), a practice that did not become common until the mid-90s.
Unlike some other Diku derivatives, Envy made it a point on their first public release to update the coding documentation to reflect their current codebase.
Later versions of Envy included some skills that had become commonplace in other MUDs at the time (such as the thief skill circle or the dual wield and berserk skill for warriors), as well popular spells like cone of silence, remove silence, recharge item, exorcise, and more.
Version 2.0 introduced long-distance socials, racial hatred, the Vampire race, and various bug fixes and other augmentations.
Version 2.2, the last release, was mostly bug fixes, but also provided Linux support, Win95/NT support, and an Amiga port.
Unfortunately Envy never implemented OLC (OnLine Creation) for administrators to be able to build areas live while the MUD was running. However, a 3rd party patch/snippet was released at some point prior to the final code release.
Ultra Envy
Eventually Envy 2.2 was picked up and became what is known as Ultra Envy, which added damage classes with the RIS system (similar to ROM's IRV system), mana types, command history, mounts (ride-able NPCs), ranged weapons, advanced Clans support, Hunting/Tracking, and many other features. Most importantly, however, Ultra Envy introduced preliminary MobProgs and OLC (based on Christopher Smith's Envy 2.0 OLC patch).
